Qwerty Seymore; all pictures by GINO |
The whole series consists of 11 books, of which six are ready. Another five are in the making and there are well over 250 000 words on all five combined. The story goes a little bananas right about the third book, when the American Agency starts chasing our hero to join them at the age of 16, and Troy Ragliani is hunting him down... But, in order to get you to that point, you need to read the first one.
Cramming my 95 000 words story into one page written in font 10, the outline looks more or less like this:
QWERTY: THE HISTORY (SHORT VERSION)
QWERTY SEYMORE loses his guardian, uncle Matt, and moves in with his only remaining relatives – the Gibble
family. He receives a mysterious, leather-bound book from Matthew, entitled
“The History”, written in a strange code he cannot read.
In his new home he is the subject
of mockery of his cousins, Sebastian and
Dolores. Burdened by his aunt Adela with
house chores and humiliated by uncle
Donald, he meets a girl called Angelina
Sandbanks. They immediately become good friends, and her parents take the
boy under their wing.

Donald & Adela Gibble. He's an estate agent and she is a witch. |
At the same time, he keeps
hearing a strange voice, telling him to read the book. He finally does, after
being punished severely by his aunt Adela for going to Ange’s birthday party.
The book treats of a strange Cult of the Sun, but the mystery of it remains
unsolved.
Soon the school starts; the boy
is teased by school bullies, but gains a group of friends, whom he meets
regularly in a secret hideout in the park: Lisa,
Gemma, Lilly and Jerry. One of his teachers is his neighbour, Mrs Knowleden, who not only makes fun
of his unusual name, but also shames the boy in front of the whole class. He
argues with her, which results in Mr and Mrs Gibble throwing him out of their
house.

That night the boy goes to
Angelina’s house, where he meets John
White, uncle Matt’s old friend. Qwerty finds out he has extraordinary
skills, such as telekinesis. At first, he does not believe John and Ange’s
parents, thinking they are crazy; soon, however, he learns how to use it. John and
the Sandbanks family possess the same gifts. The boy also finds out that his
parents are alive, but all their memories have been wiped out.
During the gang’s last meeting in
the park, Lilly’s older sister, Lesley
Bliss, discovers them. This leads to new gossip and trouble at school, as
Lilly’s mother does not want her daughter to be friends with a young
criminal, as Qwerty has been portrayed. Trying to legalise their meetings,
Qwerty and the gang start a history club at school, calling themselves the
Brotherhood of Light.

The boy practises his skills. However,
his temper becomes a problem when his cousin, Sebastian Gibble, attempts to
beat him up (not for the first time); Qwerty almost kills the boy in a
struggle, using telekinesis to protect himself. Doubts appear in his mind; the
urge to kill was strong and he is afraid of his own talents.

Soon he falls into a trap, set by
his mighty enemy – Asqualor, an
elderly, seemingly good-natured man, who attacks him viciously. He barely
escapes, but says nothing to anyone, except Ange. She advises him to tell her
parents, but the boy refuses, learning teleportation and telepathy in order to
protect himself in the future.
At the same time, the school
bullies, led by Josh Ferguson,
target Qwerty’s friend, Jerry. Qwerty tricks them into revealing their
behaviour to Mr Rodman, the
headmaster, and they are punished. They swear revenge not to Jerry, but to
Qwerty...
